Time to proficiency

Close the gap between finishing training and working independently

Focus practice on the tasks that still require help after the classroom. Define proficiency for the role, then use observed performance to decide what each person needs next.

What changed

When this becomes a priority

  • Course completion is not independent performance

A learner can finish a course while still needing someone beside them to handle a customer. Define proficiency in terms of independent tasks, not an attendance date.

  • Nesting can reveal gaps too late

When gaps first appear in the live queue, trainers must intervene while customers are waiting. Practise the difficult combination of listening, navigating and deciding beforehand.

  • Different people need different practice

Review the specific action or conversation that caused difficulty. Assign relevant follow-up practice rather than sending every learner through the same material again.
